Kenton Valley Vineyards was established in 1998 - 85 acres of scenic beauty as only can be found in the Adelaide Hills. Judy and Mike Press chose the site because of its cool climate, its altitude of 500 metres above sea level and its rainfall which is similar to Bordeaux in France.
The first stage of development in 1998 saw 30 acres planted: 10 of Shiraz, 10 Cabernet, 5 Merlot and 5 Pinot Noir. In the following year another 30 acres were planted: 20 Merlot and 10 Chardonnay. The intention was to grow premium Adelaide Hills grapes for sale to South Australian wineries.
Due to a downturn in grape prices, the Press Family decided to produce their own wine; a move which changed their direction in a most fortuitous way. The wines produced by Kenton Valley Vineyards became a treasure trove for those who heard about them, being sold initially only by ‘word of mouth’.
Since 2002 demand has increased for obvious reasons: premium Adelaide Hills wines at low prices! Cutting out the middle man has enabled the Presses to provide a first-class product at a budget price.
Life's too short to drink bad wine!
